FIFA has appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to investigate the post-match brawl that erupted after Spain’s 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in the World Cup final.
Tensions spilled over at the final whistle after Spain claimed their second World Cup title thanks to Ferran Torres’ extra-time winner.
Argentina had already been reduced to 10 men in the 93rd minute of normal time when midfielder Enzo Fernandez was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Following the final whistle, Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes clashed with several Spain players, including Eric Garcia and Gavi, sparking a confrontation that quickly escalated into a broader melee involving players from both teams.
The sides exchanged shoves before being physically separated, with Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni stepping in to help calm the situation after the ill-tempered encounter.
