LONDON : England fast bowler Brydon Carse is being investigated over an incident in Derby on Saturday night, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Sunday.
“We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night and we are currently investigating,” an ECB spokesperson said.
“We will provide a further update when possible.”
Videos circulating on social media appeared to show the Durham bowler in handcuffs being led away from a club by police officers.
Carse is part of England’s squad for the second test against Pakistan, which starts at Lord’s next week, but he was not on England duty at the time of the alleged incident after being an unused member of the squad for the first test at Headingley.
The ECB did not confirm whether Carse remained in the squad for the second test. Reuters contacted Durham for comment from the player.
The investigation comes five days after England captain Joe Root spoke about the players being “really good role models and human beings” following a series of incidents and allegations surrounding drinking culture within the team.
England have faced several off-field controversies in recent months. Harry Brook was fined £30,000 ($40,908) after an altercation with a bouncer in Wellington during last winter’s tour, while there were reports of players drinking during a mid-Ashes trip to Noosa.
Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were later dropped from England’s second test against New Zealand at the Oval after breaking a team curfew. Stokes subsequently retired from international cricket, while Brendon McCullum was removed as test coach.
Carse, who was born in South Africa, was suspended from cricket for three months in 2024 for historic betting offences.
England won the first test against Pakistan comfortably and will face them again at Lord’s next week.
