WELLINGTON — New Zealand have added all-rounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner to their Twenty20 squad for the upcoming series against India after injuries ruled out Mark Chapman and Zak Foulkes.
Chapman suffered a tear in his left hamstring during the European T20 League last month but is expected to be available for the one-day international series against India.
Foulkes injured his right hip flexor during a recent Canterbury men’s training session, with no timeline yet established for his return.
“I’m gutted for Mark and Zak and I wish them both a smooth recovery,” New Zealand coach Rob Walter said. “We’re fortunate to be able to lean on the expertise of Josh and Blair. I know they’re both very excited to be involved.”
New Zealand will host India for five T20 internationals, five one-day internationals and two tests, with the opening T20 scheduled for Christchurch on Oct. 22.
The T20 squad is led by captain Mitchell Santner and includes Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Clarkson, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Bevon Jacobs, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith and Tickner.
The changes give New Zealand additional options ahead of the opening match of the T20 series, while Chapman is expected to return for the subsequent ODI leg.
