BARCELONA: Barcelona have signed Spain captain Rodri from Manchester City on a four-year contract through July 2030, the LaLiga champions said on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old midfielder joins Barcelona after a successful seven-year spell at City, where he won 13 trophies after moving from Villarreal in 2019.
Rodri has established himself as one of the leading midfielders in world football and played a key role in Spain’s triumphs at the 2024 European Championship and 2026 World Cup. He also won the 2024 Ballon d’Or after helping City secure the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
His arrival strengthens Barcelona’s midfield as the club look to build on their domestic success and compete for major honours in the coming seasons.
Rodri’s move marks a return to Spain after seven seasons in the Premier League. Before joining City, he spent two seasons at Atletico Madrid following his emergence at Villarreal.
Barcelona described the Spain captain as a major addition to their squad but did not disclose financial details of the transfer.
Rodri is expected to make his LaLiga debut for Barcelona next week when they host Elche in their second league match of the season.
The signing gives Barcelona one of Spain’s most experienced international players as they prepare for a campaign that will include domestic and European competition.
