BARCELONA : Barcelona extended their perfect start to the LaLiga season with a 3-0 home victory over Getafe on Saturday, while Real Madrid beat Villarreal 1-0 despite having Vinicius Jr sent off.
The win gave Hansi Flick’s Barcelona eight victories from eight matches and maintained their five-point lead over Atletico Madrid, who beat Alaves 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Cristian Romero.
Barcelona returned from the three-week international break in scoring form, taking the lead after two minutes when Anthony Gordon cut inside and his shot deflected off Getafe midfielder Mario Martin before beating goalkeeper David Soria.
The hosts continued to apply pressure, and Gabriel Jesus capitalised on a giveaway by Zaid Romero to score in the 30th minute in his first start for Barcelona.
Getafe struggled to create opportunities, testing goalkeeper Joan Garcia only once after his return from injury.
Jules Kounde, who had missed a clear chance in the first half, sealed the win in the 73rd minute with a simple finish from Lamine Yamal’s curling cross.
Real Madrid’s narrow victory kept them third on 18 points, six behind Barcelona, while Atletico remained second.
The sixth-round results left Barcelona firmly in control at the top, with Atletico and Real Madrid continuing to pursue the leaders.
