NAGOYA : India’s Pincky Balhara secured a bronze medal in kurash at the Asian Games on Monday after losing her women’s 78kg semi-final to South Korea’s Mo Sumin.
Balhara, who won silver at the 2018 Asian Games, lost 5-0 to the 2026 Asian Championships gold medallist but secured India’s third Asian Games medal in kurash.
The Indian trailed early and received a warning before managing to score a chala. Sumin then upgraded the move to a yonbosh after another warning, leaving Balhara with a dakki, two warnings that put her one short of disqualification.
Balhara had reached the semi-finals by beating South Korea’s Lim Garam 3-0 in the quarter-finals.
The medal was India’s 38th at the Games, with four golds, 16 silvers and 18 bronzes.
Lovlina secures boxing medal
India’s Lovlina Borgohain assured her country of another boxing medal after beating South Korea’s Seong Suyeon 5-0 in the women’s 75kg quarter-final.
The Olympic medallist dominated the bout from the opening round, earning a unanimous 5-0 decision after judges gave her all three rounds.
Both fighters traded punches aggressively in the opening round, but Borgohain landed enough clean shots to take it 10-9 on all five cards.
Seong pressed forward in the second round, but Borgohain stepped away from the attacks and responded with counters and jabs to take another unanimous decision.
The Indian continued to control the contest in the third, landing quick combinations and leaving Seong struggling to respond. Borgohain completed the 5-0 victory with a 30-27 score on the judges’ cards.
