DOHA : The quarter-finals of the 54th edition of the Amir Cup will feature four exciting clashes on Friday, May 1, as teams battle for a place in the semi-finals.
The action begins with Al Rayyan SC taking on Al Wakrah SC at Al Thumama Stadium. This will be followed by Al Duhail SC facing Al Arabi SC at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Defending champions Al Gharafa SC meet Umm Salal SC at Al Bayt Stadium, while the final quarter-final pits league winners Al Sadd SC against runners-up Al Shamal SC at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium.
Six-time champions Al Rayyan, last crowned in 2013, head into their clash in strong form after finishing third in the Qatar Stars League. Coach Vicente Moreno expects a tough contest against Al Wakrah, who are chasing their first-ever Amir Cup title under coach Jose Sierra.
In another key tie, Al Duhail—four-time winners, most recently in 2022—face nine-time champions Al Arabi. Coach Djamel Belmadi emphasised the importance of winning the cup to secure AFC Champions League qualification, while Al Arabi’s Cosmin Contra aims to bounce back from recent setbacks.
Al Gharafa, who lifted their seventh title last year, will look to defend their crown despite a mixed league campaign under Pedro Martinez. Umm Salal, recently relegated, hope to regain momentum after reaching the quarter-finals with a strong win in the previous round.
The standout fixture sees Al Sadd, record 19-time champions and newly crowned league winners, targeting a domestic double. Coach Roberto Mancini will lead his side into a challenging encounter against Al Shamal, who enjoyed an impressive league season and are aiming for their first Amir Cup triumph.
All four matches promise high intensity as Qatar’s top clubs compete for a place in the final stages of one of the country’s most prestigious tournaments.
