Monaco: Carlos Alcaraz said he is excited to return to clay as the world number one begins preparations in Monaco for his French Open title defence.
Alcaraz claimed his fifth Grand Slam crown at Roland Garros last year by defeating Jannik Sinner in the final, following a strong clay season that included titles in Monte Carlo Masters and Italian Open, along with a runner-up finish in Barcelona Open.
“This is probably one of the best times of the season for me,” Alcaraz said. “I miss clay every time the clay season is over. It feels amazing to be back.”
The 22-year-old plans a full schedule leading into Roland Garros, including events in Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid and Rome, despite the physical and mental demands.
“Barcelona is very important for me, even though it might be a week to rest,” he added. “My plan is to take care of my body as much as possible.”
Alcaraz also described his Monte Carlo triumph last year as a turning point in his season, helping him refine his game and build momentum.
He will begin his campaign against either Stan Wawrinka or Sebastian Baez in the second round.
