DOHA : Al Rayyan began their 2026-27 Doha Bank Stars League campaign with a 1-0 victory over newly promoted Lusail at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on Thursday.
Gabriel Pereira scored the only goal of the match in the 43rd minute, firing a low left-footed shot beyond the reach of the Lusail goalkeeper.
Lusail, playing their first-ever match in Qatar’s top flight after winning promotion last season, were unable to find an equaliser despite pushing for a response after the break.
Al Rayyan held on to secure all three points and make a winning start to their league campaign, while Lusail began their debut top-flight season with a defeat.
The result gives Al Rayyan an early boost as they look to build on their third-place finish in the previous league campaign.
