Italy : Tristan Boyer grabbed headlines for all the wrong reasons after a furious on-court outburst during a Challenger event at the Francavilla al Mare Open in Italy.
The third seed, struggling for form this season, lost his composure after dropping serve in the second set against teenage opponent Daniele Rapagnetta. Trailing 6-5, Boyer erupted—repeatedly smashing his racket on the court in frustration.
An initial warning from the chair umpire failed to calm him down. As the outburst escalated, he was penalized with a game for racket abuse—effectively handing victory to the 18-year-old Italian, ranked well outside the top tier.
Boyer’s reaction only intensified. He directed a string of expletives at the umpire, smashed another racket against the official’s chair, and continued his tirade by breaking more equipment near the bench before storming off court.
The incident adds to a growing pattern of disciplinary issues. The American had a similar meltdown at the San Diego Open last year, where he also smashed his racket and left the court mid-match after a dispute with officials.
Currently outside the top 100, Boyer has endured a difficult season, managing just one win on the ATP Tour and a handful at Challenger level—frustrations that appear to be boiling over on court.
