DOHA: Al Gharafa coach Pedro Martinez said his side are mentally and physically prepared for their Emir Cup semi-final clash against Al Wakrah, with motivation key to reaching another final.
“We are ready for the match against Al Wakrah, and the source of concern lies in the players’ mental and physical condition,” Martinez told a pre-match press conference.
“The good side is that the players are happy and in good shape, and they are driven by enthusiasm and motivation. We will be ready for the semifinal. Motivation is the key word, and the semi-final means that we have one match to play to reach the final,” he added.
Martinez said his players were inspired by last season’s success, having reached the final and lifted the title.
“The players are excited. We were in the final last year, and the players know how happy moments are unforgettable. This type of match is worth fighting for on the field. Our memories from last season and the fans’ memories were wonderful, and we want to repeat these moments. I am sure that our team will be ready to reach the final,” he said.
Al Gharafa forward Ahmed Al Janahi said the team was focused on defending their title.
“We are the title holders and our goal is to reach the final and defend the title. The semi-final will be difficult and these are matches that must be dealt with intelligently,” he said.
