DOHA: The fourth edition of the GCC Games will be staged across 11 venues in Qatar, organisers said, with competition set to take place in 19 sports.
Events will be held at facilities including Aspire Dome, the Women’s Sports Hall, Hamad Aquatic Centre, Qatar Sports Club, Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex and Lusail Shooting Range, among others.
The programme features a wide range of disciplines such as athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, handball, boxing, fencing, karate, taekwondo, shooting and equestrian, alongside sports like padel, squash, billiards and bowling.
The inaugural GCC Games were held in Manama in 2011, bringing together six Gulf nations and around 1,500 athletes competing in 11 sports. Qatar finished third in the medal standings with 20 medals, including seven gold.
The second edition took place in Dammam in 2015 with five participating countries and approximately 1,500 athletes across around 15 sports. Qatar again secured third place, winning 59 medals, including 21 gold.
The most recent edition was held in Kuwait in 2022, featuring six nations and more than 1,500 athletes competing in 16 sports. Qatar placed fifth overall with a total of 52 medals, including 16 gold.
