MIAMI : Lance Stroll has delivered a blunt critique of modern Formula One cars, saying they are far less enjoyable to drive than Formula Three machinery.
The Aston Martin F1 Team driver said recent rule changes have done little to improve the situation, describing them as a “Band Aid solution” ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.
“I drove some F3 cars recently, and it is like 1,000 times more fun,” Stroll said. “You give what you want with the throttle, and you get what you want.”
Stroll criticised the current generation of power units—split between electric and combustion elements—for reducing driver feel and excitement. He also lamented the lack of sound and character compared to earlier eras featuring V8 and V10 engines.
“Now it feels like there’s no character, no noise. It’s fake,” he added.
The Canadian noted that drivers must often lift off the throttle earlier and coast into corners to manage battery energy, a shift he believes detracts from the sport’s traditional challenge.
While acknowledging Formula One’s commercial priorities under Liberty Media, Stroll suggested that long-time fans and drivers are aware of the difference in driving experience.
His comments come as F1 returns from a break following race cancellations in the Middle East, with ongoing debates around regulations and racing quality.
Stefano Domenicali has previously defended the changes, urging drivers to offer constructive feedback while respecting the sport’s direction.
