Assefa breaks own women-only world record to win London Marathon

LONDON : Tigst Assefa broke her own women-only world record to win the London Marathon on Sunday.

The 29-year-old Ethiopian surged clear of Kenya’s Hellen Obiri and Joyciline Jepkosgei in the closing stages to finish in 2 hours 15 minutes and 41 seconds.

Her time eclipsed the previous mark of 2:15:50 that she set at the same race last year.
