Paris, France : The French Open has announced a 9.5% increase in prize money for 2026, raising the total purse to €61.7 million ($72.69 million) as part of efforts to improve earnings distribution across all rounds.
Held annually at Roland Garros, the clay-court Grand Slam continues to prioritize fairer payouts, especially for players exiting in earlier rounds, while maintaining equal prize money for men and women.
Tournament director Amelie Mauresmo emphasized the importance of broader financial support for players, even as Roland-Garros still trails other majors like the US Open and Australian Open in total prize money.
In addition to financial changes, the tournament will trial wearable technology for performance tracking — becoming the first Grand Slam to test such devices, following their introduction on the ATP Tour.
The event will also celebrate several players nearing retirement, including Gael Monfils and Stan Wawrinka. Former world No. 4 Caroline Garcia will be honoured during the tournament after postponing her farewell tribute last year.
Special ceremonies and a charity event titled “Gael and Friends” will highlight the contributions of these players, adding an emotional dimension to this year’s competition.
