Doha : Iga Swiatek is looking to reignite her season by appointing experienced coach Francisco Roig ahead of the clay-court swing.
The world No. 4, a six-time Grand Slam champion, endured a difficult start to the year with early exits at the Australian Open, Doha, Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open. A shock loss to Magda Linette in Miami prompted her to part ways with Wim Fissette.
Swiatek has now brought in Roig, who worked for nearly two decades with her idol Rafael Nadal and most recently coached Emma Raducanu. She cited his technical insight and vast experience as key reasons for the appointment.
As part of her preparations, Swiatek trained at Nadal’s academy in Mallorca and even received feedback from the Spanish legend, describing the experience as a privilege.
With four French Open titles already to her name, Swiatek now turns her focus to the clay season, beginning with the Stuttgart Open, aiming to rediscover her best form ahead of Roland Garros.
