DOHA: The chief executive officer of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Porshia Archer, praised the global stature of the Qatar TotalEnergies Women’s Open, describing it as a prestigious event on the international tennis calendar.
Archer said the Doha tournament offers an ideal starting point for players seeking valuable ranking points early in the season, particularly after last year’s edition, which she said delivered historic success on and off the court.
She added that the event reflects years of sustained effort and commitment to achieving the highest standards in women’s tennis. The WTA chief highlighted the record-breaking achievements of the previous edition, calling them exceptional, and noted that strong spectator attendance and commercial returns contributed positively to the overall success of the WTA season.
Archer said she hoped this year’s tournament, being held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, would build on that momentum.
