BRISBANE: England fast bowler Mark Wood is set to miss next week’s second Ashes Test against Australia after experiencing soreness in his left knee, according to media reports on Saturday.
Wood, who previously spent nine months on the sidelines following surgery on the same knee, made his Test return in Perth last week. The 35-year-old delivered 11 overs across the two innings but went wicketless as England slipped to an eight-wicket defeat inside two days.
Speaking to Fox Cricket during the opening Test, Wood admitted he was unlikely to feature in all five matches of the series. “I think it just depends. I think just review it after every game,” he said.
With the second Test — a day-night encounter — starting in Brisbane on Thursday, England may once again need to rethink their pace attack as Wood undergoes further assessment.
