DOHA: Al Shamal striker Baghdad Bounedjah said his team deserved their 1-0 victory over Al Rayyan in the 13th round of Qatar Stars League after a tightly contested match at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium on Sunday.
Al Shamal secured the three points in a physical encounter in which chances were limited and the margin for error was small. Bounedjah said the outcome reflected his side’s discipline and collective effort throughout the match.
“Congratulations to us on the win, and hard luck to Al Rayyan,” Bounedjah said after the match. “They are a strong team and are performing at a high level.”
He added that both sides were fully aware of the importance of scoring first. “It was an exciting game with physical battles from both teams, and we knew the team that scored would win,” he said.
Bounedjah said Al Shamal executed their game plan effectively, defending and attacking as a unit. He added that the players showed full commitment over the 90 minutes to secure the victory and claim all three points.
