DOHA: Umm Salal announced on Sunday the appointment of Spanish coach Ruben Albes as head coach of the club’s first football team.
The club did not disclose the length or financial details of the contract but shared images on social media of Albes meeting players during his first training session.
Albes brings European coaching experience, having worked with several Spanish clubs including Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo, as well as Romanian side Hermannstadt.
Umm Salal parted ways with French coach Patrice Carteron on Jan. 22 following a series of poor results. The club is currently bottom of the Doha Bank Stars League standings with nine points.
Albes is set to take charge for the first time when Umm Salal face Al Duhail on Wednesday in the opening match of the league’s 15th round.
