LONDON : Tottenham Hotspur winger Wilson Odobert has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will undergo surgery, the Premier League club said on Thursday.
The 21-year-old Frenchman was forced off during Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle United. British media reports said Odobert could miss the remainder of the season.
“We can confirm that Wilson Odobert has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” Tottenham said in a statement.
The injury adds to Spurs’ mounting problems during a difficult campaign. The club parted ways with manager Thomas Frank on Wednesday after an eight-match winless run in the league.
Tottenham, who sit 16th in the table and five points above the relegation zone, have been hit by a series of injury setbacks this season. Forward Richarlison, three defenders and midfielders James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall are among those sidelined.
Captain Cristian Romero earlier criticised the club’s lack of squad depth in a social media post.
Spurs next face league leaders Arsenal at home on Feb. 22.
