DOHA (Qatar): Several leading squash players including India’s Saurav Ghosal felt that the 2022 Qatar World Cup is going to be one of the best in recent years.

“I played at the 2006 Asian Games here. It was the best Asian Games for me. I am sure in terms of organisaton, it’s (FIFA World Cup) going to be brilliant. I would love and come back and watch the matches. There will be night matches. I’m sure Qatar will put on a pretty good show,” Ghosal told KhelUpdates.com on Monday.

The football World Cup will be one of the top tournaments that Qatar will be hosting among the array of international competitions in recent times.

  • Saurav Ghosal is currently ranked 13 in the world.

Exactly a decade ago, the Gulf nation made history after it won the bidding rights to organise the Arab world’s first FIFA World Cup.

“I hope the FIFA World Cup will be a big thing in Qatar. Something to look forward to though I’m am not a big football fan. If Germany is playing, I would like to watch. But for me, it will be in front of the screen rather than coming to Doha,” said Germany’s Simon Rosner.

The competition will take place in winter for the first time-ever from November 21 to December 18, 2022.

Preparations for Qatar 2022 have continued despite the pandemic following the implementation of stringent health and safety protocols to protect workers from COVID-19.

Khalifa International, Al Janoub and Education City stadiums have all been inaugurated and are fully operational, with three others – Al Bayt, Al Rayyan and Al Thumama – in the final stages of construction.

All eight venues will be completed well in advance of the tournament.

Ramit Tandon, ranked 54 in the world, was also excited that Qatar is hosting the quadrennial event.

“I’ve heard a lot about 2022 Qatar World Cup. It would be one of the best World Cups. I’m looking forward to watching it,” said the Kolkata-born Tandon.
