DOHA: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko continued her impressive run by reaching the final of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open after beating Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-2 in Friday’s semi-final.
The 19-year-old, ranked 13th in the world, proved too strong for Ostapenko, who was runner-up in Doha in 2016 and 2025.The victory marks Mboko’s first appearance in the final in Qatar, capping a standout tournament in which she has eliminated several top contenders.
Mboko beat Russia’s Mira Andreeva, ranked seventh, in the round of 16 before knocking out Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, the world number three and 2026 Australian Open champion, in the quarter-finals.
She will face the winner of the other semi-final between Greece’s Maria Sakkari and the Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova in Saturday’s final.
