RIYADH: Cristiano Ronaldo said his passion for football remains as strong as ever after being named Best Middle East Player at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Sunday, insisting he is still driven to reach the landmark of 1,000 career goals.
The 40-year-old Portuguese forward moved to 956 goals for club and country after scoring twice for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr on Saturday. With Ronaldo indicating he plans to play on for “one or two more years,” the historic milestone now appears firmly within reach.
“It’s hard to continue playing, but I am motivated,” Ronaldo said after receiving the award for the second consecutive year. “My passion is high and I want to continue. It doesn’t matter where I play, whether in the Middle East or Europe.”
Ronaldo added that trophies and goals continue to fuel him, expressing confidence he can reach 1,000 goals if injuries stay away.
