DOHA : The quarter-finals of the Pearl Beach Volleyball Championship get under way on Saturday at The Pearl Island, with 12 teams battling for a place in the semi-finals.
The tournament, overseen by the Qatar Volleyball Association, saw teams divided into four groups in the preliminary stage.
Group A winners Lekhwiya will face Group B runners-up Al Rayyan, while Group C toppers Madinat Khalifa take on Group D runners-up Al Jassasiya.
In the remaining ties, Group B leaders Ministry of Interior meet Group A runners-up Seashore, and Group D winners Al Zubara play Group C runners-up Al Mirqab.
The semi-finals are scheduled for Sunday, followed by a rest day. The third-place playoff will be held on Tuesday, with the final to follow.
Organisers have increased the prize fund for this edition to 200,000 Qatari riyals ($54,945) for the top three teams, with 100,000 awarded to the winners, 50,000 to the runners-up and 30,000 for third place.
In addition, around 600,000 riyals in prizes have been allocated for spectators throughout the tournament as part of efforts to boost fan engagement and turn the championship into a broader sporting festival.
