DOHA: Al Sadd retained the prestigious league shield by defeating Al Ahli 8-2 in Week 19 of the 2021-2022 QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Monday.

Akram Afif (10th minute), Hassan Al Haydous (29th-minute penalty), Boualem Khoukhi (33rd minute), Santi Cazorla (36th minute), Baghdad Bounedjah (43rd minute), Andre Ayew (63rd minute and 90+3) and Yousef Abdulrazaq (77th minute) scored the goals for Al Sadd.

Abdulrasheed Umaru (51st minute) and Aldokali Alsayed (61st minute) scored for Al Ahli.

Al Ahli’s Hossein Kanaani was given the marching orders in the 25th minute for handling Abdelkarim Hassan’s shot and that resulted in the penalty which was converted by Al Haydous.

It was Al Sadd’s 16th league title overall, the most by any team in Qatar.

Going into the Al Ahli match, Al Sadd just needed to win any of their remaining five matches to take an unassailable points lead over nearest challengers Al Duhail to become the new champions, no matter Al Duhail’s results in their remaining four matches.

The victory took Al Sadd to 52 points with an unbeaten record, while Al Ahli remained on 23 points. Moreover, Al Sadd have a match in hand (Qatar Clasico against Al Rayyan from Week 14).

Al Sadd had beaten Al Ahli 4-1 in the first leg of 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League.

On to the action, the match witnessed as many as 10 goals.

It was a determined Al Sadd side all the way and they scored at regular intervals. The Wolves took the half-time break with a 5-0 lead.

Al Ahli showed more alacrity once the second half began and The Brigadiers could score two goals in the space of 10 minutes.
