DOHA: The 12th edition of the QNB Super Grade Cup gets under way on Tuesday at Al Arabi Club, with five media organisations competing in the annual Ramadan tournament.
Al Arab, Al Raya, Al Sharq, Al Watan and the Qatar News Agency (QNA) will take part in the event, a pre-Iftar fixture that has become a regular feature of the holy month, fostering camaraderie among journalists in a competitive but friendly setting.
Tournament director Ali Hussein Ashkanani said the opening match would see defending champions Al Arab face runners-up Al Raya at 3:20 p.m. In the second game, record six-time winners Al Watan meet QNA, the reigning Ramadan Press Tournament champions.
Al Arab are coached by Emad Barqawi and captained by Sameh Al-Siddiq, while Ramadan Mosaad leads Al Raya, with Ahmed Salim serving as captain. Al Watan are coached by Jihad Al-Rabi and led by Adel Al-Najjar. QNA are coached and captained by Abdulaziz Jassim Al-Hamr, with Ali Mahmoud Al-Salat among their squad.
Beyond competition, the tournament serves as an annual gathering for media professionals to reconnect and promote sportsmanship during Ramadan.
