DOHA (Qatar): Qatar national team and Al Sadd duo Abdelkarim Hassan and Pedro Miguel have been selected among the best defenders in the 2018 AFC Champions League.
Abdelkarim and Pedro were among a list of 14 players and the best will be chosen by fans through a voting system, the AFC said on Monday.
Al Sadd defenders were chosen according to their distinguished performance in the AFC Champions League 2018 and their positions, where Pedro entered the competition as the best central defender.
Abdelkarim is competing as the best left-back defender to enter the best squad for the continental championship in 2018.
The AFC shed light on the journey of Abdelkarim and Pedro in numbers and statistics, where the former is considered one of the most prominent players in the left-back center in Asia, and his performance contributed to taking Al Sadd to the semifinals of the continental championship.
In 2018, he won the award for the best player in the Asian continent, as his performance shone mostly as a defender, but also as an offensive player.
As for Pedro Miguel, he participated mostly in Sadd matches and was part of a backline that kept five clean sheets in their 12 games, as the team came so close to reaching their first final since 2011.
