DOHA: Qatari shooters Rashid Saleh Al Athba and Reem Al Sharshani clinched the gold medal in the mixed team skeet competition on the fifth day of the Asian Shotgun Championships Doha 2026, currently underway at the Lusail Shooting Complex.
The day featured intense and highly competitive action, beginning with the qualifying rounds and culminating in a thrilling final. Al Athba and Al Sharshani delivered a composed and confident performance to finish first with 47 targets, securing Qatar’s place at the top of the podium. South Korea’s pairing of Jang Soo-hwang and Koki Jang claimed silver with 45 targets, while Kazakhstan’s Eduard Yashchenko and Asim Urnbay took bronze after scoring 39.
This latest triumph lifted Qatar’s total medal haul in the skeet competition to six — three gold and three silver — underlining the hosts’ strong presence at the championship, which has attracted 196 male and female shooters from 17 countries.
With the skeet events concluded, the championship moves into its sixth day on Saturday with official training sessions for the trap competition across all categories, including men, women, juniors, and youth.
Qualifying rounds for trap will begin on Sunday, followed by junior and youth finals and the awards ceremony on Monday. The men’s, women’s, and mixed junior team finals will be held on Tuesday, while the championships will conclude on Wednesday, January 21, with the mixed team final and the final awards presentation.
Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association and Championship Director Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti expressed his delight at the gold-medal success, praising Rashid Saleh Al Athba and Reem Al Sharshani for their outstanding achievement in front of the home crowd at Lusail.
