DOHA: Qatar will meet the Republic of Ireland in an international friendly on May 28 at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7:45 p.m. local time.
The match is part of Qatar’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Qatar were drawn in Group B alongside Canada, Switzerland and a team to emerge from European play-off Path 1.
Qatar are ranked 56th in the latest FIFA world rankings released in January, while Ireland sit 59th.The Qatari national team is also set to face Argentina and Serbia in a friendly tournament to be hosted in Doha from March 26-31.
The six-team event will feature World Cup-qualified sides, including Spain, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Qatar and Ireland previously met twice during the European qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, in which Qatar participated by invitation in a non-competitive capacity as part of their tournament preparations.
Those matches came in Group A, which also included Portugal, Serbia, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan.
