ADELAIDE: The Qatari national beach volleyball team is gearing up for a high-stakes showdown against France on Thursday in the Round of 16 at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Adelaide 2025, currently taking place in Australia until November 23 with the participation of 48 elite teams.
Qatar’s duo, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, arrived in the knockout stages in top form, defeating Brazil’s George and Saymon in straight sets (23-21, 22-20) in the Round of 32 on Tuesday. Their consistent performances have underlined their ambition to push deep into the tournament and continue their journey toward the championship podium.
France’s team, consisting of Rotar and Gauthier-Rat, also advanced with confidence, winning their Round of 32 match against Argentina’s Amieva and Bueno in straight sets (22-20, 21-12).
Cherif and Ahmed have been one of the standout pairs of the tournament so far, winning all their group-stage matches to collect the full six points. They opened their campaign by defeating Cuba’s Damian Gomez and Eblis Veranes (21-18, 21-14), followed by another straight-sets win against Switzerland’s Yves Haussener and Julian Friedli (21-15, 21-15). Their third group match saw them overcome Austria’s Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger (21-12, 22-20), securing a smooth passage into the Round of 32.
With momentum on their side, the Qatari pair now turn their focus to a challenging French team, aiming to book their place in the quarterfinals and continue their push toward a medal finish.
