Doha – The Qatar Olympic Committee is preparing to stage the second edition of its annual Half Marathon in 2026, scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Lusail Trail, to coincide with the country’s National Sports Day.
The event will feature multiple race categories aimed at encouraging broad participation across age groups. A one-kilometre race is set aside for children aged six to 14, while junior boys and girls aged 15 to 17 will compete over five kilometres.
Open categories for men and women aged 19 to 39, and for those aged 40 and above, will include races over 5, 10 and 21 kilometres. The programme also features the “Al-Adaam” category for men and women in both age brackets, covering the same distances.
Organisers said the 2026 edition will also include a fun run under the umbrella of the Olympic Council of Asia, in cooperation with the Qatar School Sports Federation, with the aim of promoting sport within the educational environment and instilling Olympic values among young participants.
Ahmed Al-Jaber, chairman of the technical committee of the organising committee, said the involvement of the Olympic Council of Asia and the Qatar School Sports Federation added significant value to the event, enhancing its profile at continental and international levels and reflecting the principle of “Sport for Life.”
