DOHA : The Qatar Olympic Committee Ramadan Tournament 2026 got underway on Tuesday evening with shooting and table tennis competitions, drawing wide participation from employees and their families under the banner of “Sport for All”.

The tournament, which runs until March 5, is being staged at the Lusail International Shooting Complex in a festive Ramadan atmosphere combining competition and community engagement.

Opening day featured men’s individual and doubles shooting events, along with men’s singles table tennis, introduced for the first time in the tournament. Recreational activities for children and traditional games were also organised, while health and community partners provided services and awareness initiatives.

In individual shooting, Khalid Nasser Al-Rumaihi claimed first place ahead of Mohammed Ahmed Al-Rumaihi. Khalid Nasser Al-Rumaihi teamed up with Abdulrahman Al-Rumaihi to win the doubles title, with Salem Abdulhalim and Abdulrahman Abdulhalim finishing runners-up. In table tennis singles, Mohammed Abdul Salam secured first place, with Khalid Al-Aqqad second.

This year’s edition features five sports — shooting, table tennis, padel, football and beach volleyball — reflecting the committee’s efforts to diversify activities and expand participation. Football will be played from March 1-2, while beach volleyball is scheduled from March 3-5, with teams representing various departments of the committee.

Tournament director Maneh Ahmed Al-Jaal said around 250 male and female participants are taking part this year, noting that the inclusion of table tennis and football followed an internal employee survey aimed at broadening engagement.

The Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation is hosting the event and is participating for the first time in the football and beach volleyball competitions after previously hosting several Ramadan editions.

The event also features notable participation from community and health institutions, including the Qatar Diabetes Association and the Ihsan Center for the Elderly, as part of efforts to promote health awareness and social inclusion.

Organisers said the initiative aligns with the social development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, which emphasises building a cohesive and inclusive society through sport and community engagement.
