DOHA: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) marked World Basketball Day on Saturday with a series of sporting and developmental activities, underscoring the growing role of basketball in community engagement and social development.
The annual observance on December 21, recognised by the United Nations, was celebrated through a programme combining competition and outreach, reflecting the federation’s strategy to broaden participation, nurture talent and promote the sport’s educational and social values.
The event was attended by QBF President Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughiseeb, board members Abdullah Sultan Al-Jaber and Meshal Abdullah Yusuf Al-Maliki, board member Zahra Majed Burhan Al-Zaidan, and Lebanese coach Rana Bzazou, head coach of Qatar’s women’s national teams, along with players, officials and parents.
Activities included 3×3 competitions for the women’s national teams, highlighting the federation’s focus on developing women’s basketball and providing competitive opportunities aimed at raising technical standards and match readiness.
