PARIS: Holders Paris St Germain advanced to the Champions League last 16 after a 2-2 home draw with 10-man AS Monaco on Wednesday, sealing a 5-4 aggregate victory in a tense knockout playoff.
Monaco struck first on the stroke of halftime when Maghnes Akliouche finished from close range after neat work by Caio Henrique and Mamadou Coulibaly.
The visitors’ task grew tougher when Coulibaly was sent off, and PSG capitalised in the second half. Marquinhos levelled in the 60th minute before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia fired the hosts ahead six minutes later.
Monaco set up a nervy finale as substitute Jordan Teze converted Simon Adingra’s cross in stoppage time to make it 2-2 on the night. Wout Faes then squandered a last-gasp chance to force extra time, glancing a header wide.
PSG, who had earlier hit the crossbar through Bradley Barcola, will face either FC Barcelona or Chelsea FC in next month’s last 16.
