DOHA: Portugal have etched their name into history, lifting the FIFA U-17 World Cup™ trophy for the first time after a tense 1-0 victory over Austria in a gripping final at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
Anisio Cabral delivered the decisive moment, steering home a composed first-half finish following a flowing Portuguese move. His seventh goal of the tournament capped a sensational campaign, helping the reigning U-17 European champions complete a remarkable 2025 double.
Austria, featuring in their first-ever World Cup final at any age category, fought with heart and purpose. They came within inches of an equaliser late on when Daniel Frauscher’s effort struck the inside of the post, leaving the Austrian bench and fans in agony.
Portugal started brightly, with Duarte Cunha narrowly missing an early chance. Austria threatened on the counter as they have throughout the tournament, and Romario Cunha had to be alert to deny Hasan Deshishku after a rapid break.
But it was Portugal who seized the initiative, and ultimately the crown, as Cabral’s clinical strike stood firm. His battle for the Golden Boot fell just short, with Austria’s Johannes Moser claiming the award after finishing with eight goals. For Portugal, though, the golden prize was far greater — a world title that will be remembered for generations.
