PARIS: Cycling superstars Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard will renew their rivalry in an all-new format at the inaugural Andorra Cycling Masters later this month. The exclusive four-rider event, which also features Primoz Roglic and Isaac del Torro, will take place on October 19 and promises a fresh twist to elite road racing.
The competition will consist of an 8km uphill time trial on the Coll de la Gallina followed by a 32km urban showdown through the streets of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes Engordany. With no teams or peloton tactics involved, the race will rely purely on individual power and strategy.
For Slovenia’s Pogacar, the event offers a chance to cap off a stunning year in which he clinched a fourth Tour de France title and retained his world road championship. His Danish rival Vingegaard, who captured this season’s Vuelta a España, will aim to challenge Pogacar’s dominance in this unique, head-to-head setting.
Though not officially sanctioned by the UCI, the Andorra Cycling Masters will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage for a documentary set to release later this year.
Organiser David Quintana described the format as a rare spectacle: “The idea was to put four of the very best riders together, without teams or tactics — just pure racing. That way, fans can see who is truly the champion of champions.”
