Pakistan spin attack sinks Sri Lanka to clinch T20 tri-series title

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s spinners produced a masterclass in Rawalpindi on Saturday, dismantling Sri Lanka’s batting lineup to secure a six-wicket win and lift the T20 tri-series title.

After Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha opted to bowl first, the visitors collapsed dramatically, losing their last eight wickets for just 16 runs to be bowled out for a below-par 114 in 19.1 overs.

Sri Lanka had started brightly, powered by left-handed opener Kamil Mishara’s impressive 59 off 47 balls. His 64-run stand with Kusal Mendis (14) positioned the visitors at a strong 81-1 at the halfway stage. But once Pakistan introduced their spinners, the momentum vanished.

Mohammad Nawaz (3-17), Abrar Ahmed (2-18) and Saim Ayub (1-17) ripped through the middle and lower order, conceding only one six in 12 overs of relentless, disciplined spin.

Pakistan cruised in the chase, reaching 118-4 with eight balls to spare in a comfortable, one-sided final. Openers Saim Ayub (36) and Sahibzada Farhan (23) set the tone with a solid start before Babar Azam anchored the innings with an unbeaten 37 off 34 balls.

Sri Lanka entered the final with confidence after back-to-back wins over Zimbabwe and Pakistan, but their inability to handle spin cost them dearly as Pakistan celebrated a well-earned title triumph.
