SANTOS: Neymar has taken a positive step toward reviving his international career after undergoing successful arthroscopic knee surgery, his club Santos confirmed on Monday. The procedure was carried out by Brazil national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar to treat a medial meniscus injury.
The 33-year-old winger returned to his boyhood club Santos in January and played a crucial role in securing their survival in Brazil’s top flight. Despite struggling with pain, Neymar delivered when it mattered most, scoring five goals in his final four matches of the season.
Santos said the operation went smoothly and that Neymar is recovering well, although no official return date was provided. Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte reported that his recovery period could last up to a month.
Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer with 79 goals, Neymar has not represented the Seleção since 2023 due to a series of injuries. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the successful surgery offers renewed hope that the veteran star can regain full fitness and push for a place in Brazil’s squad.
