LONDON: Chelsea F.C. winger Pedro Neto has apologised after pushing a ball boy during his side’s 5-2 defeat to Paris Saint‑Germain F.C. in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in stoppage time at Parc des Princes in Paris as Chelsea chased the ball late in the match. Neto pushed the ball boy while attempting to retrieve the ball quickly, causing the youngster to fall back into a chair and briefly sparking a confrontation between players on the sidelines.
The 26-year-old later apologised for his actions, saying emotions had taken over during the closing moments of the game.
“I want to apologise to the ball boy. I have already spoken to him,” Neto told TNT Sports.
“We were losing and in the emotion of the game I wanted to get the ball fast and I gave him a little push,” he added.
The incident came during a frustrating night for Chelsea, who conceded late goals as PSG sealed a commanding 5-2 victory.
