DOHA: World number two Jannik Sinner crashed out of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open after suffering a 7-6(4) 2-6 6-3 quarter-final defeat by Czech 16th seed Jakub Mensik on Thursday.
Sinner, 24, a four-times Grand Slam champion with 24 career titles, struggled to maintain his rhythm in Doha as Mensik delivered a composed performance to seal victory in three sets.
Mensik will face France’s Arthur Fils in Friday’s semi-final after Fils advanced with a 6-3 6-3 win over Czech eighth seed Jiri Lehecka.
Earlier, world number one Carlos Alcaraz secured his place in the last four with a straight-sets victory over Russia’s Karen Khachanov.
The ATP 500 tournament continues in Doha with the semi-finals scheduled for Friday.
