DUBAI: Third seed Daniil Medvedev will bid for his second title at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after a 6-4 6-2 win over top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in Friday’s semi-finals.
The Russian will face the Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor, who defeated fifth seed Andrey Rublev 7-5 7-6(6) in the other last-four clash.
Medvedev, who beat Rublev to lift the Dubai crown in 2023, improved his record in ATP Tour finals to 22-19. The former world number one has yet to win the same tournament twice, a mark he could change on Saturday.
He was in complete control against Auger-Aliassime, winning 88% of his first-serve points and not facing a single break point in a dominant display.
Griekspoor, who holds a 3-2 record in tour-level finals, secured the only break of serve to take the opening set against Rublev. He then saved two set points in the second-set tiebreak before reeling off the final four points to seal victory and book his place in the final.
