DUBAI: Russia’s Daniil Medvedev secured his second Dubai Tennis Championships crown after Dutch opponent Tallon Griekspoor was forced to withdraw ahead of the final due to injury.
Griekspoor, who had battled past Andrey Rublev in the semi-finals on Friday, sustained a left hamstring injury during that match. Following medical assessment, he was ruled unfit to compete in the ATP 500 men’s final, handing Medvedev the title via walkover.
Commanding Run to the Final
Medvedev’s triumph capped an impressive week in Dubai, where the third seed looked in complete control from the outset. He opened his campaign with a confident straight-sets victory over Shang Juncheng, setting the tone for the tournament.
In the Round of 16, Medvedev delivered another dominant display, defeating former Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka 6–2, 6–3 to underline his title credentials.
While the final ended in unfortunate circumstances, Medvedev’s consistency and authority throughout the week ensured he was a deserving champion, adding a second Dubai title to his growing collection.
