FES, Morocco:Ademola Lookman delivered a masterclass as Nigeria powered into the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with a crushing 4-0 victory over Mozambique in their last-16 clash on Monday. The Atalanta winger opened the scoring and supplied three assists, while Victor Osimhen struck twice in a dominant Super Eagles display.
Nigeria set the tempo early and could have led inside two minutes, only for Osimhen’s effort to be ruled offside. The breakthrough arrived in the 20th minute when Lookman side-footed home after a neat pull-back from Akor Adams. Osimhen then doubled the lead five minutes later, finishing from close range after another incisive Lookman pass.
The pattern continued after the break, with Osimhen adding his second following a rebound that fell kindly to Lookman, who again teed up the Napoli striker. Adams completed the rout as Nigeria recorded the tournament’s biggest win so far.
Overwhelmed by Nigeria’s pace and power, Mozambique exited their maiden knockout appearance, while the Super Eagles now await Algeria or DR Congo in the quarter-finals.
