DOHA (Qatar): Lithuanian-born artist Eva Horup wants to inspire visitors to Qatar through her paintings ahead of the FIFA 2022 World Cup.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the FIFA 2022 World Cup organisers, on Friday celebrated the two-year countdown of the mega event.

“Qatar is not only about the desert or contemporary buildings. It’s also about its beautiful coastline and beaches. Qatar has a lot to offer to football fans wishing to come to Qatar,” Eva told KHEL UPDATES in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the recently-held Qatar International Boat Show (QIBS) at the Pearl Qatar.

“My paintings will inspire the visitors to Qatar and see it from a different point of view. Qatar always has a warm sea. I think a lot of Europeans love this place especially during the winter in Europe,” said the artist, who has spent two years in Qatar.

Qatar will be the first country in the Middle East to host the World Cup two years from now.

Asked about Lithuania’s chances of making it to the final round of football event, she said that it would be a big ‘miracle’.

“That would be a very big miracle. Lithuania are good at basketball but not football though we are football fans,” she added.

Having seen and witnessed the changes taking place in Qatar ahead of the football extravaganza, Eva is trying to promote the different landscapes of Qatar through her paintings.

The Doha-based artist has grown an affinity to the desert landscapes and the natural beauty of the Qatar coastline, having spent much of her free time exploring its splendor by sea.

She is able to take these experiences and project the beauty she sees into her creations effortlessly by focusing solely on resin-on-canvas artwork.

Eva has spent more than a decade living in six different countries across the globe and primarily in the Middle East, pouring her impressions onto the canvas using fluid mediums like ink, acrylics and textile dyes.

“I’ve been living in six different countries so Qatar is my latest one I’ve been living in Gulf countries in Kuwait and Oman but I must say I’m really I’m really enjoying it now in Qatar,” added the artist.

Qatari sand, Google images of country’s coastline inspires Eva

Eva said she is using the Qatari sand and Google images of the country’s coastline as an inspiration, and bring out her captivating art in public domain which has attracted quite a few buyers at the QIBS.

“I’m a liquid artist and really fascinated by the google images earth because you can see it looks totally different from above and it’s what we normally see every day so I’m doing the abstract art with ink, acrylics and textile dyes but it’s liquid and after some time it becomes a hard surface so it’s metamorphosis happening in the art,” said Eva, who said she has explored the Qatar coastline on a jet ski and speed boat.

Eva said her paintings has the same qualities as stone and ideal thing to decorate the interior of a luxurious yacht.

“The paintings are humidity, water and sunlight resistance. It’s a perfect and an additional piece to have on the yacht interiors as not all of the art pieces you can put in a yacht because water can damage them and humidity is another factor. My paintings have an advantage and also you can have them in your living room,” she signed off.
