BALI: Indonesia’s Gede Priandana etched his name into the record books by becoming the first bowler to take five wickets in a single over in a Twenty20 International during his side’s clash against Cambodia in Bali on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old seamer produced a stunning spell in the 16th over of Cambodia’s chase, a dramatic seven-ball over that included a wide. Priandana completed a memorable hat-trick and turned the match decisively in Indonesia’s favour, as Cambodia collapsed from 106-5 while chasing 168.
His extraordinary burst of wickets singlehandedly derailed the visitors’ pursuit and paved the way for a comprehensive 60-run victory for Indonesia in the series opener. The feat stands out even more given that previous five-wicket overs in T20 cricket had only been achieved in domestic competitions, by Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain and India’s Abhimanyu Mithun.
Priandana’s historic over marks a landmark moment in T20I cricket and a proud chapter for Indonesian cricket on the international stage.
