Mumbai :Defending champions India national cricket team survived a sensational century from Jacob Bethell to defeat England cricket team by seven runs in a thrilling semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Thursday in Mumbai.
India will now face New Zealand national cricket team in Sunday’s final in Ahmedabad as they chase a historic second consecutive T20 World Cup title.
Batting first, India piled up a massive 253-7, powered by Sanju Samson’s 89. He shared a 97-run partnership with Ishan Kishan, while Shivam Dube added a quick 43 to push the total past 250.
England’s chase was driven almost single-handedly by Bethell, who smashed 105 off 48 balls, hitting eight fours and seven sixes to keep the contest alive. Will Jacks provided support in the middle overs, but England eventually finished on 246.
India’s bowlers held their nerve in the closing stages, with Jasprit Bumrah delivering crucial yorkers to restrict the late surge. Earlier, England lost Phil Salt and captain Harry Brook inside the powerplay, putting pressure on the chase despite Jos Buttler contributing 25.
Despite late hitting from Jofra Archer, England fell just short, while India advanced to another World Cup final after a dramatic high-scoring encounter. 🏏
