AHMEDABAD,India: India tightened their grip on the opening Test in Ahmedabad, amassing a commanding 448 for five by stumps on day two against West Indies on Friday.
After dismissing the visitors for just 162 on the opening day, India’s batters capitalised on the platform to build a huge first-innings lead of 286 runs. KL Rahul struck a polished century at the top, while Shubman Gill chipped in with a fluent 50.
The highlight of the day, however, came from Dhruv Jurel, who notched up his maiden Test hundred with a fine 125. He combined with Ravindra Jadeja in a superb 206-run partnership for the fifth wicket, dismantling the West Indies bowling attack. Jadeja, who entertained the crowd with five sixes in his unbeaten 104, will resume his innings on Saturday alongside Washington Sundar, who is on nine.
With runs on the board and momentum firmly in their favour, India look well-placed to push for a dominant victory in the series opener.
