Lausanne, Switzerland: The FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 opened in spectacular fashion, with a goal-filled first day across Madurai and Chennai, capped off by a vibrant opening ceremony.

Belgium produced the standout result of the day, overpowering Namibia 12–1 in a dominant attacking display. Day 1 featured 16 of the 24 participating teams across Pools A, B, C, and D, with the remaining eight sides set to begin their campaigns on Day 2. Four hat-tricks added extra sparkle to an already high-scoring start.

Germany 4–0 South Africa
Defending champions Germany kicked off their title defence in Pool A with a confident 4–0 win over South Africa in Madurai. Justus Warweg led the charge, scoring the tournament’s first goal in the 19th minute by neatly deflecting a cross into the net.

Germany held a slim 1–0 lead at the break but extended their advantage in the second half. Ben Hasbach calmly converted a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute before captain Paul Glander made it 3–0 with a penalty-corner finish just a minute later. Warweg sealed the result with his second field goal in the 56th minute.

Reflecting on the match, Warweg said: “It was a tough game. They’re great opponents. I think we have the team to defend the title. I am very proud of my performance and our first three points. I hope there are more to come.”
