ICC reprimands Pakistan’s Agha after run-out controversy

Dhaka : The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reprimanded Salman Ali Agha for his reaction to a controversial run-out during the second One-Day International between Pakistan national cricket team and Bangladesh national cricket team in Dhaka on Friday.

Agha was short of his crease at the non-striker’s end and bent down to pick up the ball to return it to the bowler after a shot from teammate Mohammad Rizwan. However, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz moved behind him, collected the ball and knocked off the bails, dismissing Agha.

The incident sparked debate about the “spirit of cricket.” Frustrated by the decision, Agha threw down his gloves and helmet as he left the field.

In a statement, the ICC said Agha had breached its Code of Conduct relating to the abuse of equipment or clothing during an international match, resulting in a demerit point.

Mehidy later explained that he expected Agha might attempt a run.

“He was away from the wicket and I was just looking for the ball,” he said. “If you miss, he would go for the run. So I was just thinking like that.”

Pakistan went on to win the match by 128 runs, levelling the three-match series at 1-1 ahead of the deciding ODI scheduled for Sunday.
